Every year 500,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in Germany, 221,000 patients die from cancer per year. Due to the demographic development there will be an increase by 20 per cent in new cancer diagnoses from 2010 until 2030.
The advances in cancer research have contributed to the development of innovative and more effective therapy concepts and to the optimization of existing therapy schemes.
Survival rates and the health-related quality of life of cancer patients have increased significantly over the last years. Approximately half of the adult cancer patients and 4 out of 5 children and teenagers suffering from cancer may be cured nowadays
